Back In The Saddle

Hello again, everyone!

My apologies for never having updated this post. How embarrassing to start a blog and then never post on it again.

Let's remedy that, shall we?

It is now officially June - thank goodness! The only problem with Canada is that the summer is just too darn short, which is truly unfortunate. That being said, I think it's very important to take full advantage of the beautiful outdoors right now.

TRAILS IN THE CITY

Although this may seem like an obvious post, one of the most underrated elements of Toronto is the vast and beautiful labyrinth of natural trails, which are accessible from everywhere. They are located all around the city, with entrances in places you wouldn't have thought. Also, they stay open through the winter. They're not maintained then, but just be sure to wear your cleats or to pad your bum with extra pillows and you'll be just find to tread through the snow.

One of the most refreshing things to do during any season is go for a walk in the forest. The oxygen and shade wake up the senses, as does the frequent interactions with new people. I especially love the trails because people always bring their dogs, and are usually very willing to let you pet them as long as you ask. I've made so many dog friends I can't even explain. Seriously, if you're depressed, get yourself to one of these trails.

It's been scientifically proven that interactions with animals makes us happier. Ryerson University began a new program last year where they would bring in Therapy Dogs for the students to cuddle with around exam time. The companionship they provide gives our brains the chemicals we need to feel more connected to the world. Combine that with the endorphin boost that we receive when walking, and the serotonin boost we get from oxygen and you've got the trifecta of a perfect day when you go for a walk in any of Toronto's trails.

The below link will bring you to the Parks & Recreation site for the City of Toronto, where you can browse the different trails available and even download the map to plan your trip.

Enjoy your adventure!
